SASSA SRD Reconfirmation 2026 — What It Is and How to Complete It

Check Status Now →SASSA periodically requires SRD R370 beneficiaries to reconfirm their application to continue receiving the grant. If you receive an SMS asking you to reconfirm, do it immediately — missed reconfirmation stops your payments.
What Is SASSA Reconfirmation?
Reconfirmation is SASSA’s way of verifying that:
- You are still alive and reachable on your registered number
- You still meet the eligibility requirements
- Your details have not changed
It is different from the initial application. Reconfirmation is a shorter process — typically just confirming your details and accepting the terms again.
When Does SASSA Ask for Reconfirmation?
SASSA sends an SMS to your registered phone number when reconfirmation is required. This may happen:
- After a grant extension period ends
- When there is a policy change requiring re-enrollment
- When SASSA detects a discrepancy that needs your input
Watch your SMS inbox closely if your payments have recently stopped or your status changed to Pending.
How to Reconfirm Online
- Visit srd.sassa.gov.za
- Click “Reconfirm Application” (the link appears when reconfirmation is due)
- Enter your 13-digit SA ID number
- Enter your registered phone number and OTP
- Review your personal and banking details
- Confirm you still meet all eligibility criteria
- Submit
The process takes about 5 minutes.
Can You Reconfirm Via WhatsApp?
Sometimes. Send “Hi” to 082 046 8553 on WhatsApp and follow the prompts. SASSA may offer reconfirmation via WhatsApp during active reconfirmation periods.
What If You Missed the Reconfirmation Deadline?
If the reconfirmation window closed:
- Your SRD application may be cancelled
- You will need to submit a new application at srd.sassa.gov.za
- A new application means a fresh verification process — allow 4–8 weeks for approval
- You will NOT receive backdated payments for months you missed due to not reconfirming
This is why acting on SASSA SMSes immediately is critical.
Reconfirmation vs Appeal
These are different processes:
| Reconfirmation | Appeal | |
|---|---|---|
| When to use | SASSA SMS asks you to reconfirm | Your application was declined |
| What it does | Keeps your active application going | Challenges a specific decline decision |
| Where to go | srd.sassa.gov.za | appeals.dsd.gov.za |
| Deadline | As stated in the SMS | Within 90 days of decline |
See the appeal guide if your application was declined rather than needing reconfirmation.
Update Your Details While Reconfirming
During reconfirmation, update your details if anything has changed:
- Bank account (new account or changed bank)
- Phone number (old number no longer active)
- Address (if required)
See the banking details update guide and phone number update guide for how to make those changes separately.
