When to Update Your Banking Details
Update your details if:
- You opened a new bank account
- Your old account was closed or frozen
- Your SRD status shows Approved but payment is not arriving
- You want to switch from CashSend to a bank account (or vice versa)
How to Update Banking Details Online
- Go to srd.sassa.gov.za/sc19/banking-details-update
- Enter your 13-digit SA ID number
- Enter the phone number registered on your SASSA application
- SASSA will send a one-time PIN (OTP) to your phone
- Enter the OTP to verify your identity
- Enter your new bank account number and bank name
- Confirm and submit
SASSA will verify your new account with the bank before activating it. This takes 3–5 working days.
Which Banks Does SASSA Support?
SASSA accepts accounts from all major South African banks:
- Capitec Bank
- Absa
- FNB (First National Bank)
- Nedbank
- Standard Bank
- PostBank (for SASSA black card holders)
- TymeBank
- African Bank
Tip: Capitec is the fastest channel — SRD payments to Capitec accounts arrive on the 24th or 25th of the month.
CashSend vs Bank Account
If you do not have a bank account, SASSA offers CashSend — you collect cash at any Absa ATM using a voucher number. However, bank accounts are more reliable and payments arrive earlier.
Important Notes
- Changes submitted after the 15th of the month will apply from the following month’s payment
- Do not change banking details multiple times in one month — this can delay your payment
- Your new account must be in your own name — joint accounts may be rejected
