SASSA Status Failed — What It Means and How to Fix It
Last updated: June 2026 · South Africa SRD R370 Grant
A verification step could not be completed.
Failed usually means a details mismatch — wrong bank account, phone number, or ID issue. Update your details on the SASSA portal to fix this.
What Does SASSA Failed Status Mean?
A Failed status is different from Declined. Declined means you do not qualify. Failed means the system could not complete the verification process due to a technical or details issue.
Common causes of a Failed status:
- Invalid banking details — the account number does not match your ID at the bank
- Closed bank account — the bank account was closed or deactivated
- Phone number mismatch — the number on SASSA's system no longer matches your registered SIM
- ID verification failure — Home Affairs could not verify your ID (rare, usually a system error)
- e-KYC required — SASSA needs you to complete an electronic identity verification
How to Fix a Failed Status
- Log in to the SASSA SRD portal at srd.sassa.gov.za
- Check your banking details — update your bank account if it has changed or was closed
- Update your phone number — if you changed your number, update it at srd.sassa.gov.za/sc19/mobile-number-update
- Complete e-KYC — if prompted, complete the electronic verification at srd.sassa.gov.za/sc19/ekyc
- Wait 3–5 working days — once updated, SASSA will re-run verification automatically
