A SASSA SRD status that stays Pending for more than 3–4 weeks is a sign that something is blocking the verification process. Here is what causes it and how to fix it.

Why Is My SASSA Status Stuck on Pending?

1. Phone Number Not Matching

Your registered phone number may be outdated or no longer active. SASSA cannot complete OTP-based verification without a working number.

2. Banking Details Rejected

If your bank account is invalid, closed, or does not match your ID at the bank, payment verification will stall.

3. e-KYC Required

SASSA sometimes requires you to complete an electronic identity verification (e-KYC) before processing your application. If this step was never completed, your status stays Pending indefinitely.

4. Home Affairs Database Issue

If your ID details at Home Affairs are inconsistent or your ID is marked as deceased or inactive, SASSA cannot verify your identity.

5. System Backlog

During high-traffic periods (beginning and end of month), SASSA’s systems can be slow. A temporary system issue can delay status updates by several days.

Step-by-Step: What to Do If Pending Over 4 Weeks

  1. Check and update your phone number — this is the most common fix
  2. Check and update your banking details — confirm the account is active
  3. Complete e-KYC if prompted on the portal
  4. Call SASSA — 0800 60 10 11 (Mon–Fri 07:30–16:00) — ask why your status is stuck
  5. Visit a SASSA office — bring your ID, registered phone, and bank details — ask for a manual review
  6. Submit a complaint — if the office cannot help, ask to file a formal service delivery complaint

Does Pending Eventually Become Approved?

Yes, in most cases. Once the blocking issue is resolved, SASSA re-runs verification and the status updates to Approved or Declined within 7–14 days.
