Check Status Now →The SASSA Child Support Grant (CSG) provides monthly financial assistance to caregivers of children in South Africa. In the 2026/27 financial year the grant amount is R560 per month per child.
Who Qualifies for the Child Support Grant?
The Child Must:
- Be a South African citizen, permanent resident, or refugee
- Be under 18 years old
- Not be cared for in a state institution
The Caregiver Must:
- Be the primary caregiver of the child
- Be a South African citizen, permanent resident, or refugee
- Pass the means test (income below the threshold)
Means Test for Child Support Grant 2026
The caregiver’s annual income must fall below:

This amount was increased from R530 on 1 April 2026 as part of the annual Social Development budget adjustment.
Payment Dates — Child Support Grant July 2026
Child Support Grant payments for July 2026 are scheduled for 4 July 2026. Payments are made at the beginning of each month.
How to Apply for Child Support Grant
- Visit your nearest SASSA office — bring your ID, the child’s birth certificate, and proof of income
- Complete the SASSA application form
- SASSA will verify your details and process your application within 90 days
- If approved, payments start from the date of application
Documents required:
- Your green ID book or smart ID card
- Child’s birth certificate (unabridged or abridged)
- Proof of relationship to the child (if not the biological parent)
- Proof of income or affidavit stating you have no income
- Child’s Road to Health card (clinic card)
Can You Receive CSG and SRD at the Same Time?
No. If you receive the Child Support Grant, you do not qualify for the SRD R370 grant — receiving any SASSA grant disqualifies you from the SRD.
