The second type is the permanent disability grant, meant for individuals with long-term or lifelong disabilities lasting more than 12 months. To qualify, applicants must provide a medical assessment report from a registered doctor, proof of income, and valid identification. Approved beneficiaries receive a monthly payment of R2,315 to support their basic needs. This grant helps individuals maintain a basic standard of living despite their inability to work due to their disability. - Citizenship and Residency:You must be a South African citizen, permanent resident, or recognized refugee.

- Age Requirement:You must be between the ages of 18 and 59 years old. 3.
- Medical Assessment:A government-appointed doctor must assess your disability to determine if it qualifies for the grant.
You should provide any previous medical records or reports for accurate evaluation. 4.
- Income Limit:If you are single, your annual income should not exceed R86,280.
If married, your combined household income should not be more than R172,560. 5.
- Asset Limit:Your total assets must not exceed R1,227,600 if you are single.
For married applicants, combined assets should not exceed R2,455,200. 6.
- Institutional Care:You must not be receiving care in a state-funded institution. 7.
- Identity Document:You must present a valid 13-digit, bar-coded South African identity document (ID).
How to Undergo a Medical Test?
- Visit Your Nearest SASSA Office:Go to your nearest SASSA office to start your disability grant application.
Request a medical assessment form. Schedule a Doctor's Appointment: SASSA will assign a state-appointed doctor for your medical examination. You cannot choose a private doctor for this assessment.
- Prepare Your Medical Records:Collect all your previous medical records, reports, and prescriptions.
These documents help the doctor understand your condition.
- Attend the Medical Examination:Go to the designated clinic or hospital on the scheduled date.
Take your ID and medical records.
- Undergo the Medical Test:The doctor will examine you and fill out the medical assessment form.

- Submit the Medical Assessment Form:After the test, ensure the doctor submits the completed form to SASSA.
