Have you recently changed your phone number, and now you need to update it on the SASSA portal? You have to do it because SASSA sends SMS to your registered phone number about the SASSA payment status. Also, the South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) contacts you using the same phone number you provided for the SRD grant application.

However, to change or update your phone number at the SASSA SRD portal, you will need your SRD grant application ID. There is no way to change your SASSA phone number without the application ID or AppID. But, I have shared this guide with all the SASSA beneficiaries who want to change their phone number without the application ID.

So read this guide carefully.

How to Change Phone Number Without SASSA Application ID (AppID)?

If you have lost your registered number and don’t know your application ID (AppID), you must first recover it. Without this application code, you cannot change your phone number. Follow the method below to complete the process in two steps.

Step 1: Recover Your Application ID The AppID is linked to your SRD application. You can recover it online using our tool.

  • Here is how:Go to our homepage.

Find the SRD Status Check tool on the main page. Enter your South African ID number in the first box. In the second box, enter the phone number you used to apply for.

Click the “Get Status” button. Once you click the button, a pop-up will open. This will show your application status.

You will also see your Application ID (AppID) on that screen. Write down or save this AppID somewhere safe. You will need it in the next step to change your phone number.

Step 2: Change Your Phone Number on the SRD Portal Now that you have your AppID, you can update your phone number on the SASSA SRD portal.

  • Follow these simple steps:Go to srd.sassa.gov.za.

Scroll down and click the “ Change Phone Number ” button or go directly to https://srd.sassa.gov.za/sc19/contact . You will see a form asking for your AppID and South African ID number. Enter these two details correctly and click submit.

Next, the system will allow you to enter your new phone number. Add your new number and click next. You will receive an OTP (One Time Pin) on this new number.

Enter the OTP to verify your number. Once you do that, your number will be updated in the SASSA system.

  • Please Note:The OTP must be entered within a short time.

If it expires, try again. Make sure your new number is active and can receive SMS. You will now start receiving SASSA SMS alerts on your updated number.

This is the only safe and working method to change your number. You cannot do it without your AppID. If you lost your SIM card, always recover your AppID first.

What is Application ID (AppID)?

The Application ID (AppID) is a unique number given by SASSA when you apply for the SRD grant. It helps the system track your application. This number is assigned to every applicant, whether your application is approved or rejected.

The AppID is a 6-digit number like 334567. It connects your personal information to your SRD record. Without this ID, you cannot update your number, appeal your application, or check your status properly.

Every time you apply for the SRD R350 grant, SASSA assigns a new AppID. You can find this code on the status check result page. If you don’t know it, you can recover it using your ID number and registered phone number on our website.

Always save your AppID after applying. It is important for all updates, including phone number changes and status tracking. If you forget it, use our recovery tool anytime.

F.A.Q Can I change my number if I lose my SIM?

Yes, recover your AppID first and then update your number using the SRD portal.

How do I know my number is updated?

You will get an OTP and a success message once it is confirmed.

Can I recover AppID without a phone number?

No, you must enter the same phone number used during the SRD application.

What if I enter the wrong AppID?

The system will reject the request. Use the correct AppID only.

Can I use a family member’s number?

No, always use your own active number to avoid payment issues.

Will my payment stop if my number is wrong?

No, but you won’t receive SMS updates or verification messages. Final Thoughts You must keep your phone number updated in the SASSA system. If you lose access to your old number, recover your AppID first using our tool.

Once you have it, visit the SASSA SRD portal to change your number. Enter the correct ID, AppID, and new number to complete the process. Make sure your new number can receive SMS for OTP verification.

This method is safe and the only way to update your number. Do not share your AppID with anyone. Always keep your data private.

Stay alert and regularly check your status for new updates. Thanks for visiting today!
